Merton Conservatives oppose Viridor's application for a permit variation which will allow it to increase the amount of waste it burns. Viridor have a long history of breaching the Volatile Organic Compound limits over recent years. Allowing the application will mean the incinerator burns more waste from outside of the area as well as increased congestion and traffic concerns. Additional arisings should be transferred to external equivalent facilities outside Merton and the South London waste partnership boroughs.
