Bus operator Go-Ahead has told Transport for London that it will stop operating a number of bus routes which run through Wimbledon, Morden, and Mitcham.
The 80, 93, 154, 163, 164, and 470 routes are now being re-tendered, and TfL has said there is no threat to services.
However, the long-term future of these and other local routes is increasingly uncertain due to a combination of left-wing policies which are making life increasingly difficult for bus operators.
These include Rachel Reeves’ national insurance hike driving up costs, as well as policies supported by Labour, Lib Dems, and Greens such as the spread of inappropriate 20 mph zones and LTN roadblocks, which are making buses slower and less reliable.
The left-wing parties’ war on motorists is also a war on buses , and the Conservatives are the only party campaigning locally to put a stop to it.
For example, we have already successfully pressured the Council to reinstate the 30 mph limit on Bushey Road, and are campaigning to do the same on roads like Parkside.
Thousands of Merton residents depend on local bus routes and deserve policies that will keep bus services viable and reliable.
