A personal message from Stephen Hammond MP

Stephen Hammond MP and local Conservatives are campaigning to clean up Merton

One issue that remains at the top of residents’ list of frustrations and dominates my inbox is the lack of cleanliness of our streets and the poor refuse collection service. Merton Council continues to neglect our area and let residents down by neither listening to nor care about our concerns.

The contract appointing Veolia to clean our streets has failed, and the unwanted wheelie bin roll-out was a disaster, with thousands of collections of rubbish and recycling missed, and waste piling up in our streets.

Merton Conservatives have called on Labour run Merton Council to activate clauses in the contract to ensure the streets are cleaned and money is deducted from Veolia to pay for this.

Mucky Merton: Our campaign to clean up Merton

Merton is a great place to live but no one wants to walk down our streets and see litter on the ground or piles of uncollected rubbish. Yet, overflowing bins, fly-tipping and missed rubbish collections are now a part of daily life.
