Labour-run Merton Council has increased Council Tax by another 5%, the maximum hike allowed without having to consult residents in a public vote. This is on top of Mayor Sadiq Khan’s GLA precept, which will rise by 4%.
Your local Conservatives believe this is wrong when local residents are being squeezed by Labour government tax rises. That’s why Conservative councillors tabled a budget amendment to give residents in band A-E properties in Merton a 1% Council Tax rebate, putting more money in your back pocket.
Both Labour and the Lib Dems failed to back our amendment, meaning the full Council Tax hike will go ahead.
Your local Conservatives will continue campaigning for less waste and better value for money for local residents. Do you think you get value for money from the Council? Fill out our survey below.
