The Met Police have confirmed that the front desks at Wimbledon and Mitcham police stations are set to close on February 28th.
The news comes despite repeated claims by Labour and Lib Dem politicians to have 'saved' the police stations, and means the closest front desks open 24/7 for Merton residents will be as far away as Charing Cross and Lewisham.
Sadiq Khan and Labour-run Merton Council have failed to step in to save the front desks. Conservatives on the Greater London Assembly even proposed a fully-costed budget amendment to protect frontline Met services, including keeping both front desks open, but this was rejected by Labour and the Lib Dems.
Local Conservatives believe frontline Met services should be improved, not cut. We have proposed a permanent Met Police base in Morden to house Safer Neighbourhood Teams at the Civic Centre, but Labour and Lib Dem councillors have failed to back our plan.
Sign our petition below to tell Sadiq Khan, Merton Council, and Merton's Labour and Lib Dem MPs that you want the front desks at Wimbledon and Mitcham police stations reopened, and a new police base in Morden.
